Advice and casework on a range of issues including welfare benefits and asylum support, debt, consumer, housing, immigration and nationality, employment, family problems, domestic violence, access to education and health services, local information and other legal matters.
Client group: residents of Cheetham and Crumpsall.

Volunteers required to:

  • Participate in generalist advice work including casework
  • Give advice support - fill in forms, reception
  • Participate in administrative duties - word processing, data entry, updating information systems

Training available:

  • 10 week Advice Work training course - 1 day a week
  • Ongoing training as required

What area of work will I be dealing with?

Giving advice to the Cheetham area. This community comprises people from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds, cultures and languages and includes a large group of asylum-seekers.

Cheetham Hill Advice Centre welcomes volunteers who speak languages other than English spoken in the local community, especially Urdu / Punjabi.

How much time do I have to give? When will I be working?

Monday to Wednesday. There is a minimum requirement of one day per week, preferably two (one and a half to two days during initial 10 week advice training).
