Advice and casework on welfare benefits, housing, debt and money problems. Initial advice on other rights issues like employment rights, consumer advice, etc.
Client group: anyone who approaches the advice centre and lives or works in the catchment area: Moss Side, Hulme, Whalley Range, Chorlton, Rusholme, Fallowfield.
Volunteers required for:
Advice work - advice support work e.g. helping clients to fill in forms, interviewing clients and carrying out follow-up work.
Which client group will I be dealing with?
- People on low income / benefits from the local area
- Residents of Moss Side, Whalley Range, Hulme, Chorlton, Fallowfield and Rusholme
Training available
As part of the volunteer programme you will attend an 11 week Advice Work Training Course - 1 day a week. Ongoing training as required.
Advice & Community Resource Centre needs people who:
Are able to read, write and understand English. We welcome volunteers who have knowledge of community languages e.g. Somali, Hindi, Urdu, Arabic etc.
How much time do I have to give? When will I be working?
At least one and a half days a week while the training course takes place. At least two days after that. You need to be free on Mondays for the course, Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. Other times for training and follow-up work during office hours 10am - 5pm
Volunteers must commit to at least one drop-in advice session per week, as well as the day's training. Drop-ins: Tuesday and Wednesday 10am - 12:30pm, Thursday afternoons 1:30pm - 4pm. Other times for follow-up work during office hours 9:30am - 5pm.
The course will start on 9th January 2006. Please contact Heena by 8th December 2005 at the latest.
