Aims:To understand how knowledge of personal tax allowances and taxable income can be used to maximise income in and out of employment.
To provide an introduction to Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit
To enable advisers to calculate entitlement for Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit
By the end of both sessions you will be able to:
- Describe the steps in a simple income tax calculation.
- Describe the structure of Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit and how assessments, claims, payments and recovery of overpayments work
- Understand the steps necessary to calculate entitlement for WTC and CTC
- Delegates are asked to bring a calculator to Days 1 and 3 of the course
Level of expertise: Introductory.
This course is intended for advisers, who have recently started advising people in and out of work on Tax Credits, who feel out of touch or who wish to advise clients on WTC and CTC and who calculate benefits as part of their work. Day 1 will develop understanding of the tax-based approach to income and calculations common to income tax and tax credits and further extend income maximisation options.
You will be sent a pre-course questionnaire when booking onto this course.
This course is accredited with 11 ½ hours CPD
