Aim: To give an overview of state retirement pensions and how they are calculated.

By the end of the day you will be able to:

  • Identify the elements that make up the state retirement pension
  • Explain how national insurance contributions, credits and home responsibility protection build entitlement to the state pension
  • Explain the effect of death, divorce and separation on the state pension
  • Identify how state and other pensions combine to affect other benefits and income tax for retirement pensioners
