Aim: To provide advisers with an overview of the rights and assistance available to asylum seekers in Manchester and to update advisers as to what happens after asylum.
By the end of the session you will be able to:
- Identify what rights asylum seekers have at various stages of the asylum process and after
- Confirm the asylum status of an enquirer [documentation]
- Explain the differences between refugee status, indefinite leave, exceptional leave, discretionary leave and humanitarian protection
- List the housing rights and benefit entitlements of various status holders
Level of expertise: Introductory
The course is aimed at level 1 OISC and generalist advisers.
