Tuesday 13 November 2007  (Closing date: 23 October 2007)
10 am - 1 pm

Trainer:  Manchester Advice

Aims:
To introduce the rules of entitlement for DLA as they apply to children.
To understand the relevance of the questions contained in the DLA claim pack.
To gain awareness of the effects of an award of DLA on other benefits.

By the end of the session you will be able to:

  • Explain the conditions of entitlement to different rates of DLA
  • Anticipate potential problems with the claim
  • Complete a DLA form for a child

Level of expertise: Introductory

This course is aimed at:
A broad spectrum of advice workers including those who work directly or indirectly with children, and who wish to know more about how Disability Living Allowance (DLA) can be claimed for children.  The course will cover the rules of entitlement to DLA, problems and pitfalls that can be anticipated when making claims for children and how to overcome these difficulties.  It will introduce a range of conditions that are not uncommon in children but that may be overlooked in terms of considering DLA as a relevant benefit.
A basic knowledge of welfare benefits and DLA would be an advantage (though not essential) for this course.
