Aims: To provide an overview of the restrictions and difficulties people from abroad face in claiming benefits
To be aware of the risks in claiming if immigration status is not secure

By the end of the session you will be able to:

  • Explain what is meant by the term "public funds"
  • Describe how benefit entitlement is affected by immigration status and residence tests
  • List the factors taken into account when establishing habitual residence

 

The course is aimed at:

Generalist advisers with knowledge of welfare benefits.

Level of expertise: Intermediate
