The law relating to rights can be very complex and it is often a good idea to talk through your problem with an experienced independent adviser. Advisers can help you in different ways, for example by explaining your rights and responsibilities, giving you helpful information, contacting people on your behalf, or representing you at Court or Tribunal. They should be able to analyse your problem, advise on your legal rights and help you find a solution.
The AdviceKit Advice Agency Search can help you find the organisation best suited to your needs. We have only included agencies that give free, independent and confidential advice. The search only includes organisations based in Manchester (UK). There are no solicitors contained within the Advice Agency Search. If you are looking for a solicitor or an agency outside of Manchester please use the directory on the CLS Direct website (external link).
Free advice
All the organisations that appear in the Advice Agency Search are funded in such a way that none of the costs of giving advice or dealing with a case are passed onto you as a client. This means you will not have to pay for the help you receive from any of the agencies listed in the Advice Agency Search.
You may have to pay if you decide to take your case to a solicitor, so don’t forget to ask about solicitor costs first.
Independent advice
You can expect to receive advice that is not limited or affected in any way by an agency’s relationship to the other parties involved in your case. For example, Manchester City Council funds some of the advice agencies in Manchester such as Manchester Citizens Advice Bureaux, the Law Centres etc. They are still, however, fully able to help you with a case that involves the Council, like a problem with your council house or council tax, and will not be restricted in the help they can give you.
The organisations included in this search are not allowed to offer advice on any area where their independence may be affected. For example, Manchester Advice, the Council’s own advice agency, does not take up cases for council tenants against their landlord, the Council. In this situation, Manchester Advice would refer the case to another agency.
Confidential advice
Any information about you, as a client, will not be passed onto a third party without your permission, other than in situations where a criminal offence may oblige disclosure. Also, you have the right to ask for a private interview, only relevant facts about your case will be recorded, and you have the right to see your file at any time.
Please note: Although AdviceKit Manchester makes every effort to ensure the details in the Advice Agency Search are correct, the agencies listed may change their details without notifying us. Please read our terms and conditions.
