We have tried to design AdviceKit Manchester so that it's easy to use. However, if you're not sure what any of the sections of the site are for, the following pointers may help:

Site structure

Right hand side navigation - links to information

You can find self-help information on Debt, Housing and Benefits by going into these sections. For the most part, they work in the following way:

  • Enter a section and you will find a list of information options.
  • Choose one of these and you will be taken to a summary page.
  • Choose one of the summary topics and you will be taken to the information.

Occasionally you may arrive at the information by missing out one of the steps above. Where the information is quite long or detailed, we have sometimes split it into several pages. You can read each page within the piece of information by following 'next' at the bottom of the pages. You need to print each page separately.

The Benefits section also has an A - Z. You can use this if you know the name of the benefit or tax credit you are looking up.

More self-help information is available lower down the right hand side menu in What's New and Features.

The following sections contain a list of links to external websites: Consumer, Employment, Education, Immigration, Community Care and Health. Each link has a brief description.

Work in Advice

This section contains information about volunteering opportunities as well as paid jobs for people interested in working in the advice and related sectors. All the details are local to this area.

Other right hand side navigation features

My Advicekit

This facility allows you to save pages in AdviceKit Manchester as you are browsing. It works a bit like a 'shopping trolley'. If you have read a page of information and think you may want to print it out later, click on:

+ Add to My AdviceKit

This appears at the top of the content in the middle section. You can add as many pages as you want to your AdviceKit. If you are reading a piece of information that is split into several pages, you will need to save each page. At the end of your visit, click on My AdviceKit in the right hand navigation. You will be taken to a list of all the pages you have saved. From this list you can either print or delete your pages.

Left hand side navigation

Search box

Use this to look for particular information on the site. Type in the word or phrase that you are looking for, for example; child tax credits or income support.

Advice Agency Search

Go into this part of the site to find an Advice Agency in Manchester.

Email Advice

If you have a particular query (Manchester residents only) about an advice related matter you can send us an email by filling in the form in this section. Please send as much detail as possible.

Text size and accessibility

You can use the Text Size facility at the top right hand side of the page to increase or decrease the size of the text as you see it on your screen.

Find out more about how this site has been designed to meet accessibility standards including more about increasing text size and using access keys.

Adobe Acrobat Reader

Some of the links in this website go to PDF (portable document format) documents. In order to open a PDF document you need to have a piece of software installed on your computer called Adobe Acrobat Reader. This software is usually installed on most new PCs, but it is very easy to install if you haven’t already got it. The software is free and you can install it by selecting the link below.
