Cold weather payments
This winter, so far, there have been three cold weather payments of £25 a week triggered for a range of claimants living in the City of Manchester. These are for the periods: 18 December 2009 -24 December 2009 , 1 January 2010- 7 January 2010 - and 08 January 2010-14 January 2010.
Cold weather payments are to help certain people on low incomes to pay for extra fuel costs because of weeks of extremely cold weather. Payments are for people on low income benefits and who are older or disabled; or on the sick, or likely to be so, for more than a few months; or families with a disabled child or a child under five.
