Housing Benefit
If you have to pay rent for your home and are on a low income you might be able to get Housing Benefit. Housing Benefit is a payment that helps you cover the cost of your rent. It is administered by your local authority (in Manchester this is Manchester City Council).
Council Tax
Some people are entitled to reductions in their Council Tax or do not have to pay Council Tax at all.
Council Tax Benefit and Second Adult Rebate
Council Tax Benefit and Second Adult Rebate are available depending on your personal circumstances and / or those of the people you live with. They are administered by your local authority (in Manchester this is Manchester City Council - the Benefits Unit), and can be claimed by homeowners as well as people who rent.
Discretionary Housing Payments
A Discretionary Housing Payment is an extra payment your local authority might make to help you pay: Part of your rent if Housing Benefit is not covering all of it, or part of your Council Tax if Council Tax Benefit is not covering all of it.
Help with mortgage interest and some other costs for home owners
You may be eligible for some help from the Department for Work and Pensions with mortgage interest payments, some loan payments, some service charges and ground rent.
