One-off grants for household expenses

Community Care Grants

Community Care Grants from the Social Fund may be available for carers or disabled people who get Income Support, Income-Based Jobseekers Allowance, or Pension Credit. You might get a grant:

  • for travel costs, like visiting family in hospital or residential care, OR
  • to help your family with major difficulties, like meeting extra costs for a disabled child, OR
  • to help someone leave, or stay out of, residential care or institutions. for example, you might get a grant for furniture and removal costs if you move nearer to a relative or close friend to help look after them, OR
  • when leaving a hostel as part of a programme of resettlement

Family Fund

The Family Fund (external website) gives grants for things like washing machines, or clothing, or a holiday. It is for families and carers who care for a disabled child aged under 16 and living at home.

There is no income test, but your family circumstances will be taken into account.
