You may be able to claim War Widow or Widower’s Pension if your husband or wife’s death was as a result of their service in the HM Armed Forces prior to 6th April 2005. You might also be able to claim War Widow’s or Widower’s Pension if you were living with your partner as husband and wife before they died, and you looked after his or her children.
From 6 April 2005 the Veteran’s Agency is delivering a new pension scheme known as the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS)(external site). It replaces the War Pension Scheme and the benefits of the Armed Forces Pension Scheme (AFPS) for injuries, illnesses or death caused on or after 6 April 2005.
