The Independent Living Fund is financed by the Government. The fund is designed to help you, as a disabled person, to live independently in your own home, without having to go into care.
To be eligible to newly apply to the Independent Living Fund you must be:
- be severely disabled and needing extensive help with personal care or household duties to maintain an independent life in the community, and
- Aged from 16 to 65 years, and
- Getting the higher rate care component of Disability Living Allowance, and
- Have less than £23,000 savings, (2009/10 figures) and
- Getting at least £320 per week (2009/10 figures) of direct payments from your Social Services Department, and
- be living alone or with people who are unable to fully meet your care needs.
Note: In Manchester the Social Services Department was recently called ‘Children, Families and Social Care’ and is now called Adult Social Care.
