This is a benefit you can get if you have a child you are responsible for. It does not matter what your income is, how many savings or assets you have or whether you are working or not - you can still claim Child Benefit.

You and your child usually have to be living in the UK to claim Child Benefit. If you or your child are not living in the UK, or if you leave the UK for more than a few weeks, get advice. Child Benefit is paid by the Inland Revenue. You can check the detailed rules by following the links below.
Child Benefit Rates per week (April 2007 - April 2008)
First child £18.10
Lone parent rate £17.55 (this is usually just available to lone parents for their first child if the claim was originally made before 6th July 1998)
Other children £12.10
How to claim
You can claim Child Benefit by filling in form CH2. You can get this by phoning 0845 302 1444 (textphone 0845 302 1474) or from your local Jobcentre Plus. You can also claim online, or download the form from the Inland Revenue's website. See below.
