Armed Forces Compensation Scheme

From 6 April 2005 the Veterans Agency is delivering a new pension scheme known as the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS). It replaces the War Pension Scheme and the benefits of the Armed Forces Pension Scheme (AFPS) for injuries, illnesses or death caused on or after 6 April 2005. The new scheme is a 'no-fault' scheme that will provide simpler arrangements, with most help for those more seriously disabled. It includes help for widowers and for unmarried partners. Injuries, illnesses or deaths occurring prior to 6 April 2005 will continue to be dealt with under the old War Pension Scheme.

If the period of service which caused your illness or disability was before 6 April 2005, you can get help from the War Pension scheme.
