Free passports if you were born before 2 September 1929

Did you know that if you are a British citizen and you were born on or before 2 September 1929, you are entitled to a free ten-year passport?

Around 4.5 million people can receive free passports, following a change made in October 2004. The change was in recognition of the sacrifices in World War Two made by both veterans and civilians.

Refunds are also available if you have applied for and paid for a passport since 19 May 2004.

You can telephone for further information including how to apply for a refund. Contact the Passport Adviceline on:

0870 521 0410 (Calls are charged at national rate).
