Insulation, heating grants and help

Grants are available for home owners and private tenants on certain benefits to improve insulation and heating. You can save money on fuel bills and keep warmer at the same time! Help is available for other pensioners.

Warm Front Grants  are available for draught proofing doors and windows, insulating hot water tanks, insulating lofts, cavity wall insulation, or upgrading heating systems. If you are installing an oil-fired central heating system you could receive a grant of up to £4,000.

If you are on Pension Credit, you can have central heating installed for free. You should also be able to get free insulation. Other pensioners without central heating can now get a £300 contribution toward the cost of having it installed and between £125 and £175 towards the cost of insulation.

Gas Safety - Good Sense

Using gas as a fuel in the home is normally very safe and problem free. However gas has the potential to cause serious damage to health, and to endanger life. Gas leaks can lead to explosions, which could kill. Faulty gas appliances and lack of ventilation can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning, which has serious health effects.

For the sake of you and your family's health, safety and well being - be gas aware (external website) - don't take risks.

If you are a tenant, your landlord is legally responsible for making sure that their gas appliances, gas piping and flues in your home are well maintained and safe. A Gas Safety Check should be carried out every 12 months by a gas engineer who is registered with CORGI. It is up to your landlord to arrange and pay for these checks. You should also report faulty appliances to your landlord.
