The last order books for benefits or pensions ran out in February 2005. Instead, you may well have opened a Post Office card account or a basic bank account, available at Post Offices, banks or building societies. If you newly claim, you will usually be asked to set up a suitable account, if you do not already have one. Or, if you cannot manage an account, you now have the option of being paid by cheque for cashing at a Post Office.
UPDATE: The Government has announced plans to withdraw the Post Office card account by 2010, encouraging more people to open bank accounts.
